Interval Training
Interval training is a fast way to boost the number of mitochondria in your muscle cells. Interval training consists of intervals of high-intensity aerobic exercise alternating with low-intensity aerobic exercise. This could be done with jogging, on a bike, or using a treadmill or other aerobic exercise equipment.
During interval training, the goal is to exercise intensely for some period of time, followed by a period of moderate intensity exercise (recovery) and to then repeat the cycle. In this way, repeatedly exercising across the anaerobic threshold is a strong stimulus for your muscles to make more mitochondria. This can supercharge your metabolism and help in maintaining a healthy weight.
Be sure to consult your physician to be sure it's safe for you to begin a program of interval training.
