Waist Hip Ratio
OK, now here's where you need your tape measure. First, take a waist measurement right around the level of your belly button. Don't cinch it up too much. Take the measurement the same way a tailor would. Then take a hip measurement - right over the widest point of your hips. Enter the two values (in inches) below and click on calculate.
Waist hip ratios greater than 0.8 for women or greater than 0.9 for men suggest a tendency for insulin resistance. A waist circumference alone over 35 inches in women, or over 40 inches in men, is also a good indicator of insulin resistance.
